Shingle-Style Cottage
Waconia, Minnesota
The heavily wooded site sits high above a beautiful west metro lake with panoramic views out to the “Coney Island of the West.” A deep ravine and creek running next to the street create a natural separation from the public world. To traverse the ravine, a heavy timber bridge with stone piers was created. Past the bridge, the house, also designed by Studio Hittle, sits in a naturalized landscape without any manicured lawn.
On the lake side, a large radius deck juts out from the home. A stairway leads to the lower level, where there’s a terrace with spa and fire pit off the walkout. A winding stone stairway descends the steep slope down to the lake. The whole wooded property was enhanced with additional native shrubs and plants.
